The Supreme Court Historical Society is thrilled to once again partner with Write the World to offer an online civics writing competition for young writers! The competition, open to ages 13-19, is centered on the theme “Justice” and will run from October 5 to October 26, 2026.
The global competition prompts teenagers to examine justice – and injustice – at different levels. The competition welcomes creative writing entries (including poetry, fiction, song, playwriting, and other creative forms) between 50 and 1,000 words. Unlike any other writing competition, final entries will be evaluated by Justice Gerard Hogan of the High Court of Ireland. Justice Hogan will select the winning and runner-up pieces, as well as the best peer review. Winners will receive a cash prize and publication by both Write the World and The Supreme Court Historical Society.
Participation is free and open to any student aged 13 to 19. Students must register for a free membership with Write the World to enter. Educators seeking guidance on facilitating the competition with their students are invited to register for a free teacher professional development session. The teacher’s webinar will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM EST. Interested teachers can register online.
