The Supreme Court Film Series: Muhammed Ali’s Greatest Fight (2013)

The story of the boxer Muhammad Ali’s refusal to report for induction into the United States military during the Vietnam War, with its focus on the Supreme Court deliberations and law clerk advocacy in the 1971 case of Clay v. United States. The film, directed by Stephen Frears was based on the 2000 book Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight: Cassius Clay vs. the United States of America by Howard Bingham and Max Wallace.

Speakers: Tom Krattenmaker and David Bickart clerked for Justice John Marshal Harlan and Chief Justice Warren Burger the term that Clay v. United States was argued and decided. They will speak on their experiences and how the film both reflects reality and distorts it.
