Black, White & Brown

Edited by Clare Cushman and Melvin I. Urofsky Published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education, which was handed down on May 17, 1954. The essays collected in this volume trace the history of African-American rights and race relations before Brown and explore the decisions immediate and long-term impact. Other essays describe the challenges of enforcing Brown and examine how opinions about the case have changed over the past half-century. This volume includes a bibliographic essay and nine pages of illustrations.
