Last week the Society lost an important and cherished member of the staff when Orazio Miceli, our Director of Membership for 18 years, lost his more than four-year battle with cancer. Throughout his treatments and the many trials and disappointments, he maintained a positive attitude about life and was a great champion of the Society. Orazio was the “voice” of the Society for many callers. His cheery and sincere “Thank you for calling the Supreme Court Historical Society” has been offered to thousands of callers over the years.
He leaves a legacy of service, dedication, and commitment to the members of the Society, and to the organization as well. Below are a few comments made by Trustees of the Society recognizing him and his life and service to the Society.
“Working closely with him on membership for so many years was inspiring. He was diligent and hardworking even in the face of his debilitating cancer and its treatment. He was always the first one to greet my wife and me and the annual dinner. He did much for the Society and I am hopeful we can find a suitable way to honor his memory.”
“Orazio and I worked closely together for a number of years. I was blessed to have known him. Orazio was a trusted, dedicated colleague. He became a friend. Our friendship will transcend his passing. He made important contributions to our very special organization. They will endure.”
“Orazio was a gentle soul who gave his heart to the Society — to the leadership, to his beloved companions on the staff and to members all across the nation. He leaves us way too soon.”
“He was the best!!!!”
