library support

A Justice in need of further legal or historical references, or other information, has the help of Judy Gaskil, Librarian of the Court, and her staff of 27. They consult a collection of more than 500,000 volumes, which is accessible not only to the Justices and their law clerks but also to members of the Supreme Court Bar, members of the senate and the House, government attorneys, and, by special arrangement, visiting scholars and journalists who cover the Court regularly.

Like other parts of the Court, the Library has taken advantage of modern technology, using microfilm to save space and enlarge the collection and computerized data banks to extend its reach. At their terminals, library researchers can tap almost instantly into both general and more specialized remote sources of information.
